Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu Kingdom, has commended Nigerian Breweries Plc. for introducing the Goldberg Beer Village during the recently-concluded Ojude Oba Festival. According to the highly revered traditional ruler; the facility was a big boost to the event.
The Goldberg Beer Village was for the first time was introduced as one of the key activities to mark the 2014 edition of the Ojude Oba celebration. Oba Adetona, who declared the Goldberg Beer Village open, was represented by the Ojude Oba Festival Coordinator, Chief Fassy Yusuf. He stated during the opening ceremony that the beer village would add more glamour and colour to the Ojude Oba celebrations.
He said: “This is the first time this is happening in Ijebu Kingdom and what Goldberg has done is to raise the bar of the Ojude Oba Festival a notch higher. As we all know, the Ojude Oba Festival celebrates the deep cultural heritage of the Ijebu Ode Kingdom. It’s a period where we celebrate the unity and strength of the Ijebus. This Beer village has keyed into the celebrations and added colour and glamour to it”.
Oba Adetona commended Nigerian Breweries Plc for the initiative which he said would also bring economic dividends to Ijebu Ode. “Beyond the festivities and celebrations, the Goldberg Beer village is also playing a key role towards the upliftment of the domestic economy in Ijebu Ode by encouraging it to grow. It will be a source of both income and job opportunities for the indigenes. That is one of the reasons why we support the Beer Village,” he stated.
Also speaking about the concept, Mfon Bassey, Brand Manager, Goldberg Lager Beer-Nigerian Breweries Plc., stated that the Beer village was set up to make the 2014 edition of Ojude Oba Festival a memorable occasion.
He said: “Goldberg is a brand that appreciates and identifies with the ideals and culture of its teeming consumers. We know that the Ojude Oba is a special occasion for people of the Ijebu Kingdom so we decided to bring the beer Village down here just to make the festivities a memorable one for the people. And from what we have witnessed so far, the people appreciate the presence of the beer village.”
Bassey continued that the Goldberg brand would continue to look out for ways of engaging and rewarding its loyal consumers. “We appreciate the teeming support of the Ijebu Kingdom which has practically made Goldberg their beer of choice. This is just one of the ways we intend to continually engage with them. Our pledge is not only to consistently deliver on the promise of consistent golden quality of Goldberg lager beer, but also to keep looking out for ways to reach out to our consumers.”
The Goldberg Beer Village featured 12 days of fun and excitement with visitors treated to performances from local musical talents, comedians and other entertainers.
The events also featured raffle draws and dancing competitions with lucky winners carting away gift items including Live Cow, Bags of Rice, LED TVs, Generators, DVD players, free drinks amongst others.
