The sunshine city of Akure was agog recently as the residents trooped to give a befitting welcome to their new king. In its tradition of showing support for cultural celebrations, Goldberg beer, from the stable of Nigerian Breweries, also kept faith with indigenes of Akure as HRM Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi was recently selected by the king makers following the demise of his predecessor, Oba Adebiyi Adesida.
The Oba who is the 48th Deji of Akure was last month presented his staff of office by the Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko. The installation held at the new palace ground and it had in attendance dignitaries from all walks of life. Speaking at the event, the Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Architect Olajide Adejuyigbe described the traditional ruler as a uniting force for the people of Akure. He commended the choice of King Aladelusi by the king makers and urged all Akure sons and daughters to give the new traditional ruler every support he would need to steer the peace and development of the Akure kingdom.
In a chat with journalists at the event, the Publicity Secretary for the traditional ruler’s coronation, Mr. Tokunbo Jegede said: “Today is a special day in the history of this land, when we have the triumphant entry of the new Kabiyesi into his palace. He is a great man and a great son of the soil. It is interesting to know that he had been bidding for this crown for about 15 years now and today, God has crowned him in his own glory by a unanimous endorsement and selection by the king makers of the town. So we rejoice with him and thank God for his life. He is a very amiable person, no wonder Goldberg is coming in to support this cause as well because they know it’s a worthy cause”.
Among the top government functionaries who graced the occasion were the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo and Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Jumoke Akindele, among other traditional rulers and religious leaders.
