Diamond Bank Plc, a leading retail bank in Nigeria, brought funfair to Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Lagos at the monthly DiamondXtra draws. Students and staff of the institution defied the weather to be a part of the event.
The DiamondXtra account is designed for individuals who want to build up their savings gradually. It is an interest-yielding savings account, which allows the deposit of both cash and third party cheques. In addition, cash can be withdrawn from any ATM, and over the counter using DiamondXtra chequebook from any of the branches.
Account holders also stand the chance of winning mouth-watering prizes during the product’s weekly and monthly draws while the special draws are held midyear, during the country’s independence celebration and year end.
A total of 18 winners emerged from the draws with prizes ranging from N50,000 to N2 million. Godwin Iheanyi Ihegboro won Salary4Life, that comes with monthly reward of N100,000 for 20 years.
One of the winners of the draw in the N100,000 category, Asimotu Motunrayo Oshokoya, a food vendor within the institution, said she was persuaded to open the bank account by her friend who lend her N4,000. She appreciated Diamond Bank for fulfilling their promise even though she did not believe at first.
“Diamond Bank surprised me. I did not believe that I will be financially rewarded by opening this account. I borrowed money to open the account and here I am richer. I will tell other food vendors around to also open this type of account in the bank,” she said.
While welcoming people to the occasion, David Otukpe, Product Manager, DiamondXtra, Diamond Bank Plc said that the bank brought the draws to the institution to give the students and staff a sense of belonging and to reward their loyalty to the bank.

The draw has the endorsement of both renowned auditing firm, KPMG and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission. According to Mr. Odalo Aimufia, Manager, KPMG, N5,000 naira minimum balance in the account of a customer would secure an electronic ticket that qualifies him for a draw. He noted that the winners are randomly selected through a fair process.
He said: “The selection process is free and fair. Everyone has equal opportunity of winning. The mode of winning is not restricted to certain customers or age group. There is nothing that disqualifies an account owner of DiamondXtra aside having less than 5,000 naira.”
Mr Calix Ita, Head, Monitoring, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, assured the audience that every winner would get his reward.
