The Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Chief Host of the ongoing 24th Nigerian University Games (NUGA), Professor Bamitale Omole, has lauded the support of Diamond Bank Plc, in sponsoring the Games.
Diamond Bank, Nigeria’s leading retail bank, is the lead sponsor of the games.
Professor Omole, who recognized the enormous support from Diamond Bank in his welcome address during the Opening Ceremony of the games at the weekend, said the support has gone a long way in making it possible to organize the event with less financial stress.
He said, “I want to specially recognize and laud the contributions of Diamond Bank Plc and other donors for this event. Their support has been tremendous and helpful. Their financial support has lessened our financial burden in putting together this great event. We are deeply grateful to them.”
Corroborating the VC’s views, Professor Bayo Amole, Chairman, Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the games, noted that the university would have faced serious challenges as the host if Diamond Bank had not intervened financially to help out.
He said: “Permit me to acknowledge the enormous support we received from all our sponsors, particularly Diamond Bank. Through this support, you have demonstrated your love for the future of these youths. We are grateful for the kind gesture.”
Speaking on behalf of Diamond Bank at the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Kayode Makinde, Business Manager, Diamond Bank, Ile-Ife branch, said the bank was excited at the prospect of helping the university students across the country, who are participating in the games, realize their ambitions through sports.
Makinde added: “At Diamond Bank, we are passionate about the youth population. We believe they are the future of the country. That is why we invest heavily in developing and supporting their aspirations, be it in sports, education or entrepreneurship. We are delighted to be the lead sponsor at this edition of the NUGA Games.”
