By the time the curtains were drawn on the second raffle draw held at the Bush House Arena, Enugu State, several consumers who had not stepped outside the shores of Nigeria emerged the grand prize winners of the 2014 edition of Legend Extra Stout’s Real Deal Promo. Not only will they own international passports for the very first time, they will be flown to Dubai on an all-expense paid trip. While in the United Arab Emirates, they will shop for goods worth N1 million in value.
Some of the unique Dubai Shopping Experience winners that emerged on the evening of Thursday, May 29, 2014 are: Anuchuku John and Stephen Ajayi, both drivers, Romanus Nnamani and Anthony Okoh, both students, Chinonyerem Eleleme, a teacher and Segun Agunbiade, a carpenter.
Other lucky consumers are Peter Boniface Okorie, a trader and Emmanuel Ogunje, a civil servant.
Anchuku, a father of three, had come to the Bush Bar Arena with little hopes of winning anything big. He said: “I usually come here to drink and watch football. So when I heard that Legend Extra Stout would conduct a promo, I decided to come and just enjoy myself. But I longed to win something, no matter how small. I would have been satisfied as far as it is from my brand. My joy knew no bounds when I heard my name as a winner of the trip to Dubai.”
Anthony, a Laboratory Science Technology student, was idling away at home for several months as a result of the on-going strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP). The 21 year old was jubilant when his name was called.
Asked if he expected to win he remarked: “Honestly I’m actually surprised when I heard my name called. Although I came hopeful that I would win something, I didn’t really imagine it would be the star prize”. Both Anuchuku and Anthony emerged winners from the crowd of consumers through a transparently conducted manual raffle draw.
Messrs Ajayi, Nnamani, Eleleme, Agunbiade, Okorie and Ogunje emerged via electronic raffle draws conducted by De Don, on of Nigeria’s frontline comedians. All the winners looked forward to travelling outside Nigeria for the first time in their lives, while they confessed that their joy knew no bounds.
While Romanus Nnamani and Peter Boniface Okorie sent in several entries with high hopes that they would emerge grand prize winners, Chinonyerem Eleleme and Emmanuel Ogunje each sent in an entry. Ogunje revealed that he was sceptical about the promo, given past experiences of fraudulent phone calls he had received from scrupulous individuals.
He said: “To be frank, I thought it was one of those fraudulent people calling me. I am based in Asaba, but when I entered for the promo while on a visit to Lagos. I have had calls like this before and they turn out to be fraudulent people.”
Stephen Ajayi also shared Emmanuel Oganje’s sentiments. When asked to express his feelings, the 45 year old driver said: “I’m really excited and short of words. But I must say that I sent in entry crown corks for the N200 airtime more because I wasn’t really convinced that the trip to Dubai was real. Because sometimes the prizes look outrageous and you ask yourself if it real or a scam whereby the winners are already decided through connivance.
Lucky consumers that attended the Legend Real Deal raffle draw promo did not go home empty-handed. Some of them went home with prizes like BlackBerry phones, refrigerators and LED TVs.
While 20 lucky consumers have emerged, the final batch of 10 grand prize winners will be picked via transparent raffle draws which will be held in June.
