Orphan, School Drop-Out Emerge Star Prize Winners In Win & Shine Promo

Obinna Chukwu, an orphan, and Joshua Phillips, a school drop-out, were among the big prize winners at the on-going Star Win & Shine raffle draw parties held in various locations. Obinna won the N100,000 grand prize at the Star Win & Shine party held at Osmosis Bar, Port Harcourt, while Joshua’s raffle ticket won him the bounty at O’Jez Bar, Surulere, Lagos. Both parties were held simultaneously on Friday, September 13.

Obinna, who lost both his parents while in junior secondary school, thanked Star lager beer for giving him a new lease of life. The 23-year old barber, who had to drop out of school as a result of his parents’ demise, harboured no hope of winning any prize at the Star Win & Shine party that evening. Obinna, whose brother is responsible for his upkeep said: “It’s so surprising. I thought the best I could win might be a jersey or Blackberry. The N100,000 grand prize was just way above my expectation, but I am very grateful to the Star brand.”

Obinna plans to start off his own barbing salon with his Star largesse. He remarked: “I’m going to use this money to start off my own barbing business. I stopped schooling and learnt barbing as a vocation when I lost my parents and there was no money to take care of my education. Since I finished learning the job I have been working for people who pay me peanuts. Currently, my employer pays me N7,000 monthly.”

Rounds of applause rented the atmosphere when 18-year old Joshua Philips, a high school dropout and barman at the O’Jez venue of the Star Win & Shine party, won the grand prize of N100,000. Joshua plans to use part of the money to purchase a JAMB form to fast track his education.

In his words: “I am grateful to the organisers of this promo for giving me the opportunity to fulfil my dreams of becoming an accountant. Things have been difficult for me and my family, so much so that I had to drop out of school to get work as a barman to help out. I never thought I would be able to go back to school since I dropped out in SS 2. However, with this money, I can pay for my fees and prepare for JAMB. I can also help out my family with part of the money. Generally, Star has just helped my family to relieve some of the financial challenges we have been facing.”

Other mouth-watering prizes won by consumers at the Star Win & Shine parties were: 32 inch LCD screens, home theatres, N50,000 cash, Blackberry phones, among other prizes. Other Star Win & Shine parties were held at upscale bars in Makurdi, Uyo, Benin and Ibadan on Friday, September 13. The following day (Saturday, December 14, 2013), it was the turn of bars located in Akure, Abeokuta, Awka and Nasarawa to host revellers that turned out for the parties. The Star Win & Shine National Consumer Promotion will end on Saturday, November 2, 2013.
