Bloomberg TV Africa, a partnership between Bloomberg Television, a leading supplier of global business and financial news video content and Optima Media Group (OMG), a Lagos-based media company, has launched two new business programmes and also announced the launch of a further two programmes which will air from early 2014 on Bloomberg Television on DStv channel 411.

EEPNL Boosts University Geological Education with N500m
Since its inception six years ago, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, has spent a total of N500 million on the University Partnering Programme (UPP). The UPP was initiated to help the ailing educational system; specifically to provide a boost to Geosciences education in Nigeria. it is aimed at funding geological field programmes in selected Nigerian universities as a means of enhancing the quality of locally-trained geosciences graduates. In addition, it seeks to improve the skills of those making and interpreting maps and also contribute to the production of high quality geological maps in the country. Speaking at an event in Lagos where buses and geological equipment were donated to six universities, Mr. Chikwendu Edoziem, Executive Director/General Manager, Upstream Nigeria Exploration, EEPNL, said the commitment of his company to capacity development is beyond rhetorics.

The 10th instalment of Gulder Ultimate Search, Nigeria’s first 100 per cent local content reality TV show has gotten underway. Just as Chidi Mokeme returns as the Anchorman, the Usaka jungle also remains the location where this year’s searchers would have to unearth ‘The 10th Symbol. Mokeme took viewers through the regional audition exercises which held in Owerri, Benin and Lagos. A record 40,000 youths applied to be part of the programme. Each potential Gulder Ultimate Searcher is subjected to physical, mental and medical tests to qualify for the search. The sprinting and squatting exercises have over the years proven to be the most potent process of separating the unfit from the fit. Thousands fall by the wayside while hundreds more are eliminated after being unsuccessful in picking balls in the ‘ball dash’ games.

Gov. Akpabio Sends Gulder Ultimate Search 10 Contestants Forth Into Usaka Jungle
The 12 contestants for this year’s Gulder Ultimate Search paid a courtesy visit to the newly constructed Akwa Ibom state government house, just before their entry into the rugged and swampy terrain of Usaka to search for the 10th Symbol. The searchers were received by the state’s executive governor, Barr. Godswill Akpabio. Also on hand to receive the Gulder Ultimate Search contestants were the Deputy Governor, Barr. Valerie Ebe, the state’s Head of Service, Commissioners, Special Advisers, among others. Barr. Akpabio thanked the management of Nigerian Breweries Plc. for the decision to stage Gulder Ultimate Search again in the Usaka jungle of Akwa Ibom state. He said: “This is the first time that Gulder Ultimate Search will be held in the same location for a second consecutive year. This is an uncommon decision brought about by some of the logistics Akwa Ibom put in place as an uncommon host. I am sure you will have an uncommon experience this time around and you will also go home with uncommon memories of Akwa Ibom State.”
